Connecting Jira to Troopr
Overview
To help Troopr automate your standups and track project progress, you must first connect it to your Jira instance. This connection allows Troopr to read activity, update issues, and provide insights directly within Slack. The setup process involves three main steps: connecting your instance, verifying your account, and mapping your team.
Step 1: Connect your Jira instance
Troopr supports both Jira Cloud and Jira Server/Data Center (DC). The connection is handled via OAuth, which means Troopr respects all your existing Jira permissions and security settings.
Open the Troopr web dashboard or access the Home tab in the Troopr Slack app.
Navigate to Settings and select Manage Connections.
Choose Connect to Jira Cloud or Connect to Jira Server / DC based on your setup.
Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize Troopr. For Jira Cloud, you will be redirected to Atlassian to grant access. For Server/DC, you may need to provide your instance URL.
Step 2: Verify your Jira account
Once the instance is connected, each user needs to verify their individual Jira account. This ensures that when Troopr performs actions—like updating a ticket—it does so on behalf of the correct person.
Users will receive a prompt in Slack to Verify Jira Account.
Clicking the verification link will securely link their Slack identity to their Jira profile.
Administrators can monitor verification status and send reminders to team members who haven't completed this step yet.
Step 3: Map Slack users to Jira accounts
For Troopr to accurately draft standup updates and attribute work, it needs to know which Slack user corresponds to which Jira user. Troopr attempts to do this automatically by matching email addresses, but users can also manually confirm their identity.
Mapping ensures that:
Jira activity (like closing a ticket) is automatically included in the correct person's standup draft.
Personalized notifications and nudges reach the right person in Slack.
Permissions are maintained so users only see and edit issues they have access to in Jira.
Security and Permissions
Troopr is built with engineering-grade security, including SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance. It does not train AI models on your data and never bypasses your Jira project or field-level permissions. If a user cannot see a project in Jira, they will not be able to see it through Troopr in Slack.
